Supporting Mental Health When It Matters Most

Rapid Access Assessments (RAA) is a specialized service line under Atlanta Specialized Care designed to deliver urgent, high-quality mental health evaluations within one business day of initial contact.

RAA bridges the critical gap between lengthy outpatient wait times and emergency department or psychiatric hospital intakes, which are often time-consuming, emotionally distressing, and may result in unnecessary hospitalization. Through timely clinical triage, comprehensive assessment, and clearly guided next steps, RAA helps individuals access the most appropriate level of care – without avoidable escalation.

Our goal: restore stability quickly, reduce unnecessary steps, and connect you to the right level of support as soon as possible.

When urgent mental health concerns arise, individuals and families need clarity, professionalism, and a team that knows how to guide next steps with confidence. Rapid Access Assessments at Atlanta Specialized Care are built on responsiveness, evidence-based practice, and strict confidentiality, so you can obtain answers quickly and move forward with assurance.

Structured Assessment & Comprehensive Evaluation

Every Rapid Access Assessment begins with a focused, clinically grounded evaluation that examines both symptoms and functional impact. We use standardized tools alongside clinical interviews to ensure important information is not missed or left to guesswork.

  • Validated screening instruments, such as the PHQ-9 and GAD-7, to assess depression and anxiety severity
  • The Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) when indicated to evaluate suicide risk using clear, direct questions
  • Structured clinical interviews exploring psychiatric history, current stressors, protective factors, and functional impact across home, school, and work

This combination of standardized measures and clinical expertise provides a reliable picture of what is happening in the present moment and informs the next phase of care.

Evidence-Based & Clinically Grounded Care

Rapid Access Assessments are guided by established research and clinical best practices. Our goal is to develop diagnostic impressions that are accurate, clinically meaningful, and useful for treatment planning – not simply a list of labels.

  • Diagnostic impressions are informed by DSM-5 criteria
  • Symptom patterns and severity are integrated with assessment results, clinical observations, and personal history
  • With appropriate consent, information from family members, schools, or other providers may be incorporated

By relying on evidence-based frameworks rather than opinion alone, we are able to offer clearer clinical insight and move efficiently into recommendations and safety planning when needed.

Clear Next Steps & Safety Planning

At the conclusion of the assessment, clients are not left uncertain about what comes next. Findings are translated into a clear, actionable plan that can be followed immediately and shared with other providers as desired.

  • Written recommendations outlining appropriate levels of care, including outpatient therapy, psychiatry, IOP/PHP, or hospitalization when indicated
  • Safety planning that addresses current risks, warning signs, and concrete strategies for maintaining safety
  • Resource guidance that can be shared with families, schools, or workplaces as appropriate

This approach allows individuals and their support systems to act quickly and confidently while maintaining continuity of care.

Trusted Professionals & Privacy

Assessments are conducted by licensed mental health and psychiatric providers experienced in managing complex and acute concerns. We maintain a secure, private environment that supports openness and trust.

  • Services provided by licensed clinicians and medical professionals.
  • In-office and secure telehealth options available based on clinical need and preference
  • Clear clinical protocols for escalating care when safety concerns are identified

This combination of professional expertise and privacy supports a calm, structured experience during a highly stressful time and allows for efficient coordination of follow-up care.

Coordinated Follow-Up & Continuity of Care

Following the assessment, our focus shifts from evaluation to connection. We assist in navigating next steps so individuals and families are not left managing care transitions alone.

  • Referrals to outpatient therapists, psychiatric providers, IOP/PHP programs, or inpatient services when appropriate
  • Communication with existing providers when releases of information are in place
  • Support with coordinating transitions between levels of care or accessing higher-level services

This coordinated approach ensures momentum is maintained and assessment findings translate into meaningful progress toward stability and ongoing support.

Important: Rule-Out & Exclusion Criteria

Rapid Access Assessments are designed to provide urgent clinical support, but they are not a crisis or emergency service. For safety and appropriateness of care, RAA is not suitable for individuals experiencing:

  • Active danger: Current suicidal or homicidal intent with a specific plan
  • Severe psychiatric instability: Active psychosis with impaired reality testing or safety
  • Medical or substance instability: Acute intoxication, withdrawal, or need for immediate detoxification
  • Medical instability: Conditions requiring immediate medical intervention

If you are unsure whether Rapid Access Assessments are appropriate, we encourage you to schedule a complimentary triage call with our on-call clinician for professional screening and guidance
