Counseling

The transition from High School to College, or College and Adulthood, can be exciting yet anxiety-provoking for young adults. In our ongoing collaboration with the Aha! Connection, the most recent article posted discusses this topic. ASC’s Licensed Therapist, Neitcha Thomsen, writes an insightful blog on the skills and resources needed for young adults to thrive during this potentially rough transition.

In her article, Thomsen outlines the critical skills required for independence and self-sufficiency in college and beyond. She delves into the importance of self-advocacy, managing emotions, effective scheduling and budgeting, and the value of seeking academic support when needed. She also discloses how those who struggle with a mental health condition or learning differences may require extra planning and resources.

Parents play an essential role in helping their children develop these skills and access resources. However, if they are unfamiliar with the types of support available at colleges or within their communities, it’s helpful for parents to know that there are experienced Therapists who can help. Licensed Therapists help young adults identify strengths, determine what additional support is needed, and help with making sure young adults receive the help from counseling and disabilities services available through colleges, empowering young adults on their journey to adulthood.
